Triva!

One of my Professor's asked us this today in class.

Name sixteen Kings of France.

Open letter my fellow students:

No, I do not think the Professor is being a 'bitch' making us do this 'high school bullshit' as you put it. If doing a close reading is so 'high school' then it should be easy for you.

How did you manage to make it to Senior level English classes without ever writing a Response paper? Really, I'd love to know.

I don't really care if you think we should be able to write on one of the films. If you haven't noticed this isn't a film class, but an English class so the fact that we're focusing on the text shouldn't surprise you.

No I will not tell you how to write your paper. It's only spelled out step by step in the handout. It is all of two pages double spaced at the most, you won't die.

No love,
History Geek

Why Are You In This Class Again?

There is a girl in my Shakespeare class who I just might have to murder before the end of the semester.

It's bad enough she seems to think one film class makes her an authority, but she's rude. Very rude.

She whispers with her friends while the Prof is talking, talks OVER the Prof to the point of not letting her talk, and not to mention being dismissive of anything anyone else says. This young lady also thinks that this course will be a 'essay A'.

Also I'd like to smack her over the head with this:

Throne of Blood =/= German Silent Films
Kurosawa =/= Not liked in Japan, because OMG Western ideas
Scotland PA =/= Clueless
Bio/Poly Sci major =/= English/History major

And yes of COURSE you're expect to have somewhat decent grammar in a response paper for a senior level class.

I am pleased that the Professor went over how to quote lines from a play with us. It nice to have it easily accessible in my notes then digging through MLA.

On a different note: Happy Birthday Virgina Woolf, hope wherever you are you and Katherine Mansfield are having a few drinks.

Because I'm a Masochist

The bare bones: The Honors College is sponsoring a study abroad in Ireland for which I have applied for a spot.

The 'meat': I have applied for the Honors College and the trip to Ireland. I also have never written essay that quickly before in my life (and really does anyone actually read these application essays?). If accepted to the Honors College I get to write a senior thesis and perhaps lose my mind.

The in-class part would start a day after get back from K'zoo. My boss just might kill me, but in my favor is the fact that no one else will WORK with my after-school kids (which isn't fair to them because really they're no worse than the other primary class. Though if my on co-workers son is there today I might scream because he is a handful and a half). So if she kills me, well she has to find someone else to work my shift and she hates hiring new people.

In other news I have the last four books of Confessions to read for tomorrow.

Yes Virgina, Superheros are Real!

Mysterious samurai saves Police in UK

"Two of the criminals were arrested, but in true hero style the samurai
disappeared before police could speak to him."

I admit to geeking out over this. It be even cooler if he had a costume and mask.

Briefly...

My Shakespeare class is Shakespeare and Film, and we have the block of students from the Chaucer class going in the middle of the class room.

I'm going to have so much fun in this class. Back to Macbeth with me, might as well use my snow day to good use.
